Tall Men - 3 Quick Clothing Pitfalls to Avoid
By Jim

Ahem... pardon me, that's "tall" men. What's that you say?
You're 6'2"? Newsflash: you're not
tall.
6-foot 3-inches? Sorry, mate... not tall.
I'm not trying to be harsh or obnoxious, it's just... at
6'3", you can still shop regular clothing stores. This article
is for the TRULY tall.
- This article is for the 6-foot 4 and above guys who've
had it up to HERE with stores who think a 34" inseam is
"extra-tall"...
- This article is for the vertically-gifted guys who
don't feel like gaining 300 pounds just so you can shop at
the Big & Tall...
This article is for TALL men. Not BIG and tall. Just
tall.
- If your inseam is 36" or better -- I want you to raise
your right hand and say "AYE!"
- If your waist is 44" or lower -- PLEASE, fellow
brother, raise your right hand and say "AYE!"
- If you've absolutely HAD IT with endless driving to
countless stores, only to return home empty-handed -- SAY
"AYE!"
Awesome. Now that the gang's all here, I can speak
frankly...
Without a doubt, finding tall men's pants, shirts and shoes
used to be a LOT harder than it is now. The internet has done
wonders with regard to the selection, cut, fit and styles that
are available to us guys, 6'4" and above.
However, there is a need for caution -- there are quite a
few tall men out there who, giddy with all the new choices on
the web, will order most anything that comes in their size.
Let me tell you, after spending years being deprived of
anything decent to wear because of my 6-foot, 7-inch stature --
I can totally relate. The new-found power to choose from a wide
variety of styles can be quite intoxicating.
But... with great power comes great responsibility*... Here
are 3 quick pitfalls for tall men that
even *Spiderman won't save you from:
1. Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans for men may come in and out of fashion, but one
thing remains the same: skinny jeans hardly EVER belong on an
extra-tall guy.
You can ignore this advice if you're 16 and ride a
skateboard, or if you're in a rock band, but for the rest of
us, listen up: skinny jeans do a great job at highlighting
awkwardness and lankiness. They make your legs look even longer
and more sticklike than they already are. Unless you're
auditioning for a role in The Corpse Bride 2, you don't need
that.
On the other hand, big, overly-baggy hip hop jeans aren't
necessary, either. As a tall man, remember these 3 cuts when
shopping for jeans, and you'll always look cool:
- relaxed fit jeans
- loose fit straight-leg jeans
- loose fit boot-cut jeans
2. Pointy-Toe Shoes This is another
style that comes and goes, but for you... it should always go.
Leave the pointy-toe shoes to the short guys, fellas. Again,
let me speak frankly: most of us tall guys actually HAVE long
feet and we don't need any help trying to "impress" the ladies
in that way.
Besides that, why not give your toes some room to be
healthy? You may need them later in life.
3. Over-Sized Shirts
This is an easy mistake for tall guys to make--buying the 2X
or 3X shirt because it gives us a little more length in the
arms. The problem is, your neck and torso are now SWIMMING in
fabric, and you have to tuck 15 feet of extra fabric into your
pants. You look like a gawky school kid, instead of a
well-dressed man.
A good rule of thumb is to look for the shoulder seam on
your shirts to hit you right at the edge of your shoulders. If
there is any overhang, the shirt's too big. Try on an LT, XLT
or 2XLT, if need be. You might even need to consider having
shirts tailored especially for you -- but whatever you do,
don't settle for shirts designed for big, wide guys if you're
not big and wide.
As more and more choices become available online for
tall men's pants, shirts and shoes,
remember -- everything that comes in
your size, doesn't necessarily "fit."
